AI Readiness Academy
Is your data AI-ready?
Data is the most common blocker for small businesses adopting AI. Tools are cheap and easy; the information underneath them is neither. Five minutes with this guide tells you whether yours would help or sabotage your first AI project.
The three questions that matter
- Quality. Is the information AI would draw on accurate, consistent and current — or is the same customer's name spelled four ways across three spreadsheets?
- Ownership. Does every important dataset have a named person responsible for keeping it correct, secure and documented?
- Accessibility. Can the people and tools that need data actually reach it, or does everything depend on one person emailing one CSV?
If any of the three is weak, an AI tool built on top will confidently produce wrong answers — often the worst possible failure mode for a small team.
A five-minute self-check
Answer honestly, as the business is today — not as it should be:
- Could you name the owner of your customer, finance and operations data without hesitation?
- Do the same records agree with each other across the systems you use?
- Could a colleague get what they need without asking you personally?
- Do you know what personal data you hold and where it is stored?
- Have you ever turned down a tool because "our data isn't in a fit state"?
Three or more "yes" answers means your data is in reasonable shape. Fewer than three suggests readiness work should come before any tool purchase.
From "we can't use AI yet" to "we're ready"
Most data readiness gaps can be closed in ninety days: pick one or two datasets that matter most, give them owners, fix quality where it is worst, and make the data reachable by the people who need it. That is the scope of the 90-day data improvement plan in our AI Data Readiness Audit — a structured audit, integration feasibility check and a prioritised quick-fix plan for £495.
